The prolonged dengue outbreak in Kolkata has raised significant concerns for both the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the State Government, especially with the upcoming Durga Puja festival, one of Bengal's most celebrated events. In light of this, Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation conducted an extensive inspection of the SSKM Hospital area to address dengue prevention and the control of larvae.

During his visit, Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh mentioned that despite previous requests made to senior doctors and the Deputy Superintendent of SSKM Hospital to maintain cleanliness, a critical issue came to light. Officials from the Health Department of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, led by Adhin Ghosh, observed mosquito larvae breeding in the water within the pond behind the hospital's staff quarters. Subsequently, chemical spraying was carried out in response to this finding. The hospital authorities were alerted to this concern and urged to maintain vigilance and conduct regular monitoring to prevent the proliferation of parasites.

To ensure the health and well-being of the general public throughout the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, a comprehensive and urgent effort, comparable to wartime standards, will be implemented. Mr.Atin emphasized the importance of this initiative, particularly in preparation for the forthcoming Durga Puja festival.
